Christian Education

We believe that Christian education should build on children’s natural curiosity and lead our young people along a path to a lifelong connection to the fellowship of Jesus Christ. Being a witness to God’s message as told in the Bible means taking action inside and outside the church’s walls.  Our youth programs actively involve children in the life of the church, together with their peers and with the whole church community.

Children’s Church In our Sunday School, young people learn the basics of faith, and discover the amazing people and adventures of the Bible. The children learn how Christian beliefs can guide them in their daily lives today.Prior to the beginning of the church service, children meet together for food, fellowship, and songs of praise chosen just for them.   Active movement is often part of the children’s activities.

On certain Sundays the children focus on service to the church or the wider community, from decorating the church or preparing a skit to making crafts for the elderly or preparing rooms for visits from Family Promise families. Each week our children participate in portions of the adult church service. Children typically sing the doxologies, a hymn, pass the peace with other members of the congregation, and read a prayer of confession.

Lessons in Faith A Children’s Sermon provides our young people, along with the adults in the congregation, a brief lesson in faith. The sermons offer memorable, and often surprising or humorous, connections that highlight how God is with us everywhere we go and in everything we touch. Children meet in age groupings that best serve their needs as they grow in knowledge of their faith.

In their lesson time, the children participate in a variety of activities that vary by the season.  The children listen to, act out, and read Bible stories; create take-home crafts; play games, make joyful noise; and establish friendships with each other as part of learning about Christ as their best forever friend. Each week gives the children something to talk about with their families during the week and ways to take action in their daily lives.

Growing in Faith Our programs for children include opportunities for the whole family to come together to experience a Jesus-centered life.

The Christmas and Easter seasons include special events for the whole family. Family events and activities also mark other seasons of the year. Cornfield mazes, apple picking, and family picnics provide different venues for learning about our place in God’s world.  Children come together with the congregation to serve others at events like our church walkathon, a CROP Walk, Feed the Need, or Family Promise’s Tent City. Participating with church members of different ages to put faith into action forges memories and bonds that last a lifetime.  We welcome children of all ages and their families! Infants and toddlers (up to age 3) are welcome to join us for nursery care during the adult service.
